It's 2011, I am in the basement home movie theater of my classmate's McMansion. We are about to watch Monte Carlo starring Selena Gomez for her 10th birthday party. The movie starts. And it's so blurry. And too wide, so it bleeds a little bit outside of the projection screen. I turn to the girl sitting next to me and whisper, "I bet her dad burned this movie off of the internet." And this girl looks at me with shock and disgust. Burning movies off of the internet was not okay, after all, you wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a handbag, you wouldn't steal a television, you wouldn't steal a movie.
But all dads burned DVDs in 00's, especially mine. And I had absolutely no cognitive dissonance seeing thee blue FBI piracy title card at the beginning of Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. However, it's only now that I am appreciating his tenacity (we have hundreds and hundreds of movies), but also his remarkable penmanship. He had a way with a CD-R from Fry's and an off-brand Sharpie. These are just a couple I found while I was at home in June. Enjoy!
